We received some very exciting news yesterday about two of our fabulous creative writing teachers. Pamela Freeman and Kate Forsyth have both been shortlisted for the 2009 Aurealis Awards.
The Aurealis Awards are Australia’s most significant prize for fantasy, science fiction and horror writing. They were established in 1995 by Chimaera Publications, publishers of Aurealis magazine. This year the awards cover 13 different categories in children’s, young adult’s and adult fiction.
In the best Young Adult Novel category, Kate Forsyth’s book The Puzzle Ring has been shortlisted. Since
it’s release earlier this year, the book has received many favourable reviews and has been sold to a number of different countries, including Indonesia.
This is not the first time Kate has been shortlisted for the Aurealis Awards. In 2007 she was shortlisted, and won, five times in the junior sections for her ‘Chain of Charms’ series.
(We mentioned The Puzzle Ring in a post back in May this year. You can read more about it here.)
And in the best Children’s Illustrated Work/Picture Book, Pamela Freeman’s Victor’s Challenge has also been shortlisted. Victor’s Challenge is the second book about Prince Victor, the not-so-bright prince on a quest to find his princess. He’s accompanied on his adventures by his much smarter horse, Quince.
Pamela has been very busy this year. She also published Full Circle, the third volume in her Castings Trilogy for adults, in September.
Congratulations to Kate and Pamela! We look forward to hearing the results in January. You can check out the full shortlist at aurealisawards.com.
